For parents and caregivers
Type Quest children's privacy notice
Type Quest is operated by Captain Intelligence LLC in Birmingham, Alabama. This notice explains guest play, optional family cloud saving, and the separate grown-up feedback system. A child can play without an account, email address, or password.
The short version: guest progress stays in that browser on that device. Family cloud saving is optional, requires a grown-up's email sign-in and clear permission, and does not create child accounts. Type Quest has no ads, chat, or third-party analytics.
Information saved during guest play
The game stores the following information in the browser's local storage:
- The pilot nickname entered by the player
- Game settings, scores, lesson and mission history
- Typing accuracy, speed, and skill progress by key
This guest information is not sent to Starboard or to another company. It remains on the device unless a parent chooses to download a backup file.
Limits of browser saving
Guest progress is tied to the specific browser and device used. Clearing site data, using a private browsing window, changing browsers, or changing computers can make that progress unavailable.
The Backup button creates a Type Quest backup file containing the family's game progress. A parent can keep that file somewhere safe and use Restore inside the game if the browser copy is lost. It is meant for parents, so a child does not need to understand or manage the file.
Early Access: Type Quest is still being improved. Missions and the learning path may change. Guest progress stays only in this browser and can be lost if browser data is cleared. Family Account progress syncs online, but this early version does not yet include a guaranteed backup and restore service. We’ll warn grown-ups before any update that could affect saved progress.
What the guest version does not collect
- No child email address, legal name, birth date, or home address
- No camera, microphone, or location access
- No advertising, behavioral tracking, or social sharing
- No chat, messaging, or contact with other players
Optional family cloud saving
Type Quest is free. A grown-up can sign in with a one-time code sent to their email and manage up to 10 child pilot profiles. Children do not need a login or email address.
Before the first pilot is uploaded, the grown-up sees a short direct notice and must give clear permission. Signing in confirms the email address but does not, by itself, give permission to collect a child's progress.
Family cloud saving stores only:
- The parent's sign-in email in Microsoft Entra, not in the Type Quest game database
- An internal family identifier and each child's nickname-only pilot name
- Accuracy, speed, mastered keys, lessons, missions, and game progress
- A small record of the parent's permission and essential security events
The game does not ask a child for an email, legal name, birth date, school, address, photo, voice, location, chat message, or free-form text. It does not store raw keystroke timing patterns.
Optional grown-up feedback
A grown-up can send guest feedback about a bug, idea, lesson, accessibility concern, account problem, or something that worked well without signing in. Guest feedback has no saved receipt, reply, status page, or delete control. Optional grown-up verification is used only to view or delete feedback previously sent through a signed-in account.
Feedback is kept separate from children’s progress and never automatically includes a pilot nickname, scores, keystrokes, or mission history. The guest form stores the adult’s message, category, page, app version, a random guest identifier saved in that browser, and security timestamps. It does not ask for contact information. The form tells adults to keep names, email addresses, phone numbers, schools, health information, and locations out of the message.
The random guest identifier and deterministic message hashes help limit repeated submissions and detect duplicates without creating an account. Signed-in historical feedback uses a separate pseudonymous account key so its receipts stay private. These identifiers do not contain an email address.
Guest submissions require a Cloudflare Turnstile anti-spam token, which the server validates before accepting the message. The token is single-use and is not a contact identifier. To operate that check, Cloudflare may process limited network, browser, and device information, such as an IP address, that is needed to identify automated abuse. Type Quest sends the returned token to its server for validation. Automated tools may redact, categorize, summarize, combine duplicates, and help resolve feedback. Only minimized feedback is released to the automated workflow, and uncertain or instruction-like messages are quarantined without releasing their text. Only a sanitized summary is placed in Type Quest’s private development tracker.
Operational processors may log receipt IDs, workflow status, timestamps, privacy reason codes, request status, and minimized feedback text. They do not intentionally log raw feedback, account keys, message hashes, passwords, or sign-in tokens. Deleting a report removes its active feedback record and in-app receipt; limited provider security or operational logs can remain until that provider’s normal service-retention period ends.
Services that operate cloud saving
Microsoft cloud services host encrypted family progress and grown-up feedback in separate storage, and Microsoft Entra External ID authenticates the grown-up's email. Microsoft Entra also processes limited sign-in and security records, such as the parent's email and IP or device details, under Microsoft's service-retention policy. Cloudflare provides the website, domain routing, basic network security, and Turnstile anti-spam checks for guest feedback. OpenAI tools may help process minimized grown-up feedback, and sanitized work items may be stored in a private GitHub repository. These providers operate and protect Type Quest; they do not advertise to children, build marketing profiles, or sell the information.
Type Quest does not use advertising, session replay, social features, or third-party behavioral analytics. Limited technical records such as an IP address may be processed only when needed to deliver and protect the service.
Parent choices and controls
Guest play is always available without a cloud account. A signed-in grown-up can review readable progress, download the family's data, delete one pilot, or withdraw permission and delete all family progress.
Cloud progress is kept until a grown-up deletes it or contacts us for help. Deleting a family removes its child nicknames, typing results, mission history, and permission record from the active game service.
After a whole-family deletion, Type Quest keeps only non-readable deletion markers and basic security timestamps to stop an old offline computer from restoring deleted progress. These markers contain no parent email, child nickname, typing results, or mission history. The parent's Microsoft Entra sign-in identity and security records follow Microsoft's service-retention rules; contact us if you also want help removing that sign-in identity.
Grown-up feedback is kept for up to 12 months so repeated reports can be combined and resolved. Guest feedback has no in-app reply, status, or delete control because it is not attached to an account. A signed-in grown-up can delete historical private feedback sooner from the private feedback list, where each item shows its complete receipt number.
Questions, review, or deletion requests
Guest data can be removed by clearing Type Quest site data in the browser. A signed-in grown-up can download family data, delete one pilot, or withdraw permission and delete all family progress from the Family Account screen. A parent can also contact us for help.
